FileBoss – Professional File Manager
If you want to manage your files with the default tools Microsoft built into the operating system, then you will have to stick with Windows Explorer. The good thing about Windows Explorer is that it is quite easy to use; the downside is that it is a bit on the basic side. If you want a professional and powerful file manager, you must turn to 3rd party applications – such as FileBoss.
Getting FileBoss up and ready for use will take little of your time. The download weighs in at 8.3MB, meaning it will complete in a blink on a high-speed internet connection. The installation process is nothing more complicated than following the steps presented by a setup wizard. FileBoss can be installed on any Windows version, from Windows 2000 up to Windows 7.
The first time you run FileBoss you will be presented with a Configuration Wizard. If you close the wizard, you can access it later from the Options menu or by pressing Ctrl + Alt + W. If you go through the few steps the wizard presents, you will get to choose the style and size of the toolbars, pick one of several themes that change the general appearance of the application, select if you want inactive buttons to be darkened, specify how you want file names to be displayed, and choose if you want to enable Sticky Select (add selected entries by clicking, without having to hold down the Ctrl key).
The interface is typical of what you would expect from a professional, dual pane file manager. Novice users may feel a bit intimidated at first, but advanced users looking for a powerful file manager will immediately feel at home.
The functionality is typical of what you would expect from a file manager as well. You can copy, move, rename, and delete files. You can compare folders, search for files, join files together, destroy files and clean folders, create virtual folders, and more.
You have 30 days at your disposal to use FileBoss for free and uncover the exceptional functionality it has to offer. The trial version is fully functional, it is not limited in any way.
The powerful file manager FileBoss is a properly good alternative to the default file manager Windows Explorer. It has a lot to offer and it isn’t hard to use.
Pros
Can be installed on just about any Windows version; simple installation process that takes little time to complete. You are presented with a Configuration Wizard when you first launch the application. You can customize the application’s interface. Copy, delete, rename, change extension, search and replace, create virtual folders, duplicate files, and other functions. The trial version is fully functional.
Cons
Free to use for a trial period of 30 days.
